From Nervous to Absolute Fire
Senior photos for Hannah Brennan finally happened after months of reschedules, weather changes, and recovery from surgery. And honestly, that made this session mean even more. We started among spring azaleas before heading to the beach for sunset, UConn college photos, and the kind of confidence shift you could literally watch happen in real time.
This Rhode Island senior session for Hannah Brennan combined spring florals, beach sunset portraits, and college commitment photos after her original summer session was postponed because of a leg injury and surgery. The final gallery included azalea garden portraits, UConn commitment photos, and relaxed beach images that reflected her bright personality and senior year story.

Why this senior session took almost a year to happen
When Hannah Brennan originally booked her senior session, the plan looked completely different. We had scheduled everything for the summer before senior year. Two locations. Beach included. A full evening planned out.
Then life changed.
She injured her leg and ended up needing surgery, which meant postponing the session entirely. Honestly, most seniors
would have been disappointed after planning for so long. But Hannah and her family stayed flexible through every
schedule shift and weather change that came after.
And turns out, waiting worked in our favor.
By spring, the azaleas were blooming, she already knew where she was heading to college,
and she walked into this session with a totally different energy than she probably would
have months earlier.
There was also something extra personal about this session for me.
I grew up in West Warwick, and while talking with her mom, we realized her uncle had actually gone to high school
with me. Small world. Those little connections always make sessions feel less like meeting strangers and more like
catching up with people you somehow already know.
Because honestly, by the time I photographed Hannah, I had already photographed several of her close friends too.
So even before we officially met in person, there was already this comfort level there.
Starting the day at the azalea garden
Since we moved the session into spring, Hannah wanted florals instead of the original summer look.
Best decision.
The azalea garden gave us soft color everywhere without feeling overly posed or formal. And because she kept her outfits simple, white dresses, jeans with a white top, and later a blue dress, the locations stayed the focus without overpowering her personality.
At first though, she surprised me.
For someone so bubbly and outgoing, she started the session a little nervous in front of the camera. You could see those first few minutes where she was figuring out what to do with her hands and laughing at herself between poses.
Then everything shifted.
And once it clicked, it clicked fast.
Some of her expressions suddenly looked straight out of a magazine campaign. Not overly serious. Not forced. Just confident.
Honestly, those are my favorite moments during senior sessions. Watching someone go from
unsure to fully owning the moment within the span of an hour.
Because here’s the thing.
Confidence in photos usually doesn’t happen immediately. It happens after movement, conversation,
awkward jokes, walking between spots, and realizing nobody’s judging you.
By the second outfit, Hannah was completely in her element.
And the photos proved it.
The moment Hannah relaxed in front of the camera
One thing I loved about this session was how naturally the energy evolved throughout the day.
Nothing felt rushed.
We had already dealt with enough schedule changes because of weather, so once we finally had good conditions, we really leaned into it.
We shifted locations the next day after rain forced another adjustment, and honestly, the final combination ended up being even stronger
than the original plan.
That flexibility matters during senior sessions.
Especially in New England.
There was one moment that still sticks out to me.
We were walking between spots in the garden, and Hannah suddenly stopped second-guessing herself. Her posture changed. Her smile changed. Even the way she moved changed.
After that, every frame felt effortless.
And because I had photographed several of her friends already, she trusted me quickly once she settled in.
That familiarity always helps seniors relax faster because they already know what the experience is going to feel like before they even arrive.
Honestly, it became less about posing and more about reacting.
Laughing at random comments. Fixing hair in the wind. Walking barefoot near the sand later in the evening. Real moments.
Why spring senior sessions hit differently
One of the biggest advantages of spring senior photos is simple.
You already know where you’re going next.
For Hannah, that meant bringing her University of Connecticut gear for commitment photos.
And those always end up becoming some of the most-used images from a senior gallery.
Graduation announcements. Dorm decor. Grad parties. Instagram commitment posts. Parents sharing them
nonstop.
There’s also something emotional about spring sessions that feels different from summer.
Summer sessions are about anticipation.
Spring sessions feel more reflective.
By this point, senior year is almost over. Friend groups are about to split up. Sports seasons are ending. The countdown becomes real.
For Hannah, who’s part of the cheer team at West Warwick High School, this season carried a lot of milestones all at once.
And after everything with her injury and recovery, finally getting these photos done probably felt like closing out a really important chapter.
Ending the night with beach sunset photos
After the gardens, we headed to the beach for sunset.
Completely different vibe.
The beach portion of the session felt relaxed from the second we arrived. Shoes off. Wind everywhere. That softer energy that happens right before the sun disappears.
And because Hannah was already fully comfortable by then, we were able to create some of the strongest images of the entire session.
Especially in the white dress.
Some seniors need almost an entire session before they stop thinking about the camera.
Hannah wasn't exactly that way. She didn't take much time at all.
By the first thirty minutes, she wasn’t nervous anymore. She was fully present. Confident.
Playful. Relaxed.
And those are always the galleries people remember years later.
Not because every strand of hair stayed perfect.
But because the photos actually feel like them.
